I am honored to have received the Democratic nomination for State Representative of Ledyard, Preston and Montville. I humbly ask for your support of my re-election.

It is hard to believe that I am in my third term in the legislature. My service has been enormously rewarding, and we have made much progress. Casino host towns’ share of the state’s gaming revenue has increased dramatically. Municipal aid to our towns, particularly for education, has increased significantly. A new Military Affairs Office is now working to protect the Sub Base from future closure. Education reform was adopted to enhance our economic competitiveness.

Despite this progress, I am very concerned about the state’s ongoing fiscal crisis. Although the legislature closed a $9 billion budget gap for the current biennium, we are still facing a projected $7 billion deficit for the next biennium. Our fiscal challenges are a result of years of poor policies and practices that are now driving the “structural” deficits we face. The severity of this crisis and its potential impact on funding for our towns and schools are what motivates me to seek re-election.

In Crisis—A Terrible Thing to Waste: Connecticut’s Budget Dilemma and the Opportunity for Reform I offer my assessment of the state’s fiscal condition and my recommendations for significant and long-term budget, tax and government reform.

This urgent agenda is the impetus for my campaign for re-election as your State Representative. Failure to advance this agenda holds great consequences for our state’s fiscal stability and economic prosperity.
